Chambers Caribbean update May 2017
Category : Caribbean
Dear Partners in Ministry,
Sorry to miss last month’s Caribbean update. Between training workshops, writing a paper to complete a master’s degree, and a trip to Belize, time slipped away. We have also been helping our daughter and her family as Caryann recently had surgery. We are hopeful that she will find relief from the much needed laproscopy.
I just returned from Jamaica after a fruitful trip meeting with church, seminary, and deaf ministry leaders across the island. I would appreciate your prayers as the Caribbean leadership team considers the possibility of theological education and leadership training ministries along with a unique opportunity to train pastors for the deaf community in Jamaica. There is very little ministry to the deaf community in evangelical churches with only one deaf congregation and a couple of churches that have sign language ministries. Unfortunately, the Jehovah Witnesses are doing more than the evangelical church. Pray for wisdom as we seek the Lord’s guidance for future ministry in Jamaica.
MTW’s newest team in the Caribbean is in Nassau, Bahamas. Rev. Julian and Christiana Russell, Bahamas team leader, arrived on the field in December and John and Karen Stodghill arrived in January. The team is working at building relationships with their neighbors and communities and have begun a home Bible study which they hope will become a core group for a new church plant at the Russell’s home. The team is also going to an inner city school, Stanley Primary School, where they are working on literacy, reading skills, and assisting the teaching staff as they build relationships and minister to the staff and children. Ask God to bring both children and staff to faith through this ministry.
A ministry in the planning stage is for Anita and I to use our years of experience in Haiti to minister to the Haitian diaspora living throughout the Caribbean. We will consider countries where MTW has long-term ministries such as the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and in Belize City. Ask God for wisdom as we develop these ministries.
Thank you for your faithful support and your prayers. We are excited to see what God has planned for future ministry for MTW in the Caribbean.
Garry and Anita
